CORE PLATFORM — MANTICORE GAMES CHARACTER IMPLEMENTATION • MAYA → UE4
My Role in This Project — Junior Technical Designer (Implementation)
I worked on the character implementation pipeline for Manticore Games as part of the outsourcing team at Sparx* (Virtuos). My responsibilities involved preparing, validating, and integrating character assets from DCC tools into Unreal Engine to ensure they were fully functional, visually consistent, and ready for gameplay use.
Key Contributions (Non-confidential Overview)
- Imported character models from Maya into Unreal Engine, including skeleton hierarchy validation, orientation checks, and re-targeting setup.
- Identified and corrected rig/skinweight issues resulting from exports, ensuring proper deformation across full animation sets.
- Imported Substance Painter texture sets (BC/N/R/M/AO/Emissive) and created Material Instances following Manticore’s internal shader structure.
- Used internal tools to validate texture packing, verify channel usage, and bake maps correctly for implementation.
- Performed deformation, shading, and lighting checks under different environment settings to match visual benchmarks.
- Ensured character mesh, texture, and animation consistency aligned with Manticore’s style and gameplay requirements.
- Authored clear pipeline notes to support character artists and improve cross-team communication.
- Supported integration testing by checking character behavior in-engine, identifying issues, and coordinating fixes with art and tech teams.
